A Different Perspective - Video Marketing Examples #80
Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.
Cruises are well and truly back! But Virgin Voyages wants you to know that things have changed a little bit.
Of course, there’s flexible booking and testing in place. But, most importantly, there’s no kids allowed.
Perhaps the most traditional way to advertise this would be to show footage of child-free adults enjoying the luxury vessels, and Virgin Voyages delivered on that front:
But they also decided to do something unexpected. Instead of telling the story from the perspective of the parents, they decide to let the disgruntled kids tell it. And the result is pretty brilliant.
This oh-so ‘80s music video really differentiates Virgin Voyages from other cruise lines out there, and the hilarious power ballad is pretty catchy too!
Special US, the creative company behind the campaign, explained the reasoning behind deciding to let kids tell the story:
“After being cooped up with their kids over the past few years, it’s only fair that parents get what they really want. A break. Virgin Voyages are adult only, so we thought it would be fun to show the kids’ perspective on that.”
This poses an interesting question: Could you tell your brand story from a different perspective? What would that look like? Could it give you an edge?
(Okay, so it turned out to be 3 questions!)
Showing your brand from a different perspective can be an interesting way to stand out in the industry and also have a bit of fun with your marketing.
Think about your favourite video ads - the ones that you still remember years or even decades later - it’s likely you remember them because they came at their marketing from a different angle.
