A Frightening Reality - Video Marketing Examples #139

Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.

It’s a troubling time right now, with war disrupting and changing lives in multiple parts of the world.

This makes it a pressing need for organisations who support those affected to spread their message and get the help they need from the wider public.

This week’s video marketing example is an interesting one, created by the Spanish nonprofit, Rescate.

It uses beautiful animation to depict imaginative Halloween scenes - ghosts, monsters, ghouls and more.

The viewer is drawn into the whimsical ‘nightmares’ through slick animation and powerful transitions.

But then it delivers an emotional gut punch:

As scary as these may seem, they are a sweet relief compared to the real-life horrors suffered by refugee children in war zones like Ukraine, Syria, and Gaza.

Their reality of bombardment, displacement, and trauma is the real nightmare.

These are sad and difficult themes to explore, but what this certainly does do, is tap into the ‘real-time’ lives of the audience. It creates a clear contrast between the playful fun of Halloween and the real life nightmare of war.

It’s a good example of how using real-world calendar events and seasons creatively can strike an extra resonant cord with viewers - a theme we’re sure to explore more thoroughly in the coming weeks as we build up to Christmas.

It’s also a great example of how animation can be used to juxtapose imagination with stark realities.
