Communication? Animation!: Video Marketing Examples #47

Think of animated video, and most people think first of customer-facing content: videos to educate, introduce and explain products and services. 

What isn’t always as evident - because it’s happening ‘behind the scenes’ - are the brilliant and creative ways brands use animated video to communicate with their own employees 

Take Channel 4 for example. 

Like many organisations, they’ve leveraged remote working to help get through the pandemic.

Now, as things open back up, they’ve created an animated video for their own employees, which lays out the broad strokes - and thinking behind - their new ‘50/50’ work policy.

(Spoiler alert: C4 employees are allowed to split their time 50/50 between their office and working remotely!)

This has all the same hallmarks that make animated video so popular among external audiences:

It’s fun, cool and offbeat, with more than a splash of humour that makes the message engaging and easy to digest.

The use of different voiceover artists - represented by different characters on screen - allows for different viewpoints to be put and considered. (This is important on such an emotive issue when people want to feel that their viewpoint has been taken into account!)

And, essentially, to understand the true impact of this video you just need to put yourself in the shoes of a C4 employee and ask yourself which would be more relatable, more empathetic, easier to interpret and construe: this video, or a soulless internal memo/email?

Sure, making an animated video is an investment. And most brands would look to traffic, leads and sales to quantify the return on that investment.

But what about the cost of employee churn? The cost of recruitment, training and onboarding? The cost of low employee engagement? 

Video, used well, can impact all these metrics for the better!
