Fox of the World - Video Marketing Examples #121
Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.
Beer adverts are some of the most popular video marketing examples out there.
From Budweiser’s ‘Wasssssupppp’ juggernaut promos to Carlsberg’s ‘Carlsberg don’t do…’ campaign, they are loved and quoted by millions of people.
So, to have some impact in that industry, a new ad has to be something special.
And we think that England’s very own bitter pale ale ‘Old Speckled Hen’ has done just that!
The brand released a new campaign with two video adverts fronted by the return of their mascot from 1994, Henry the Fox.
Targeted at the brand's core audience, drinkers aged 35-55, Henry talks directly to them about broadening their horizons, and trying anything once!
This leads to hilarious animated footage of the hero character in a multitude of crazy situations, such as endurance sport (a stare off with a frog), taxidermy (of a fox hunter no less!) and a rather cheeky scene of Henry skinny dipping (blurred out for decency of course!).
Henry then rounds it up by reflecting on which of his experiences were worth it…and which he’d skip to instead discover the unique taste of Old Speckled Hen.
Delicious!

It’s easy to fall into the trap of creating brand new characters or concepts year after year, but as this ad shows, using a character that is recognisable with your audience may be the way forward.
New adverts, with new animation techniques, but the same fox that the audience loves.
This has been the recipe for success for Old Speckled Hen.
