Gotta get down on Prime Day: Video Marketing Examples #31
Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.
Prime Day. Two of the most seismic words - and, confusingly, also two days - in the world of retail, landed this week.
At the risk of stating the obvious, Prime Day is big business.
The first one was held on July 6th, 2015, in celebration of Amazon’s 20th birthday. It’s since become a yearly extravaganza of slashed prices and epic deals for customers. (As well as doubling in length, while keeping its singular name - but who are we to judge?!)
These offers are limited to Amazon’s 150m+ Prime members - each paying a monthly or annual subscription. This alone gives you an idea of Amazon’s revenue generating power.
But on top of this, it’s estimated that around $10.4 billion was spent worldwide on Prime Day 2020 - an eye watering number.
What’s interesting is the extent to which Prime Day can make people buy things they weren’t planning to buy. A survey revealed that 48% of shoppers agree that Prime Day leads to unplanned Amazon purchases.

Prime Day has become a key perk of Prime membership. And so, Amazon are keen to spread the word - to make people aware that Prime Day is coming.
Little surprise, then, that they decided to use video. They ran a live action campaign that says a lot about the diversity of deals on offer and the various ways in which these deals can augment and improve the viewer’s life.
And what we really need to talk about here is that script. A thing of beauty:
"Amazon Prime Day is here.
2 days of epic deals that could change your kitchen, change your yard, change the game.
Even change the way you celebrate.
Yeah, Prime Day deals can change a lot.
So if you've made plans this Prime Day? Change them!"
45 words that tell you what’s happening, why it’s exciting, and what you need to do. Incredibly powerful stuff and a reminder of the power of brevity! You can really say a lot when you limit your words.
This is accompanied by widespread social campaigns featuring even shorter versions.

Feeling inspired?
One of the key things we need to achieve whenever we work on a video here at Wyzowl is to get your message across in the least number of words possible.
It’s a really important skill that we’ve built up over years in the industry.
If you’re tripping over your words and struggling to get your message across, why not get in touch with us and see if we can help?
(After you’ve finished shopping on Amazon, of course!)
