Happily Ever After - Video Marketing Examples #101
Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.
Is there anything more challenging than marketing to an audience of marketers?
That’s the challenge for Thinkbox: an organisation set up by the major commercial broadcasters in the UK to promote the value and effectiveness of TV advertising to businesses and agencies.
Their goal is to convince marketers to allocate budget to TV advertising.
And their success depends on their ability to use TV ads to reach that audience.
This latest TV ad is an example of how they use quirky and original humour to do just that.
The concept is simple, if unusual - and unexpected: it’s a testimonial, with a difference! We see a ‘nursery rhyme’ lawyer, Michael Goose, who represents nursery rhyme characters such as Incy Wincy Spider, Humpty Dumpty and more.
This approach alone is enough to raise a smile and grab attention, but the beauty is that - without being preachy or pushy - the ad lets him tell the story of how he got this unusual business off the ground with the use of TV advertising.
Now, as he puts it, business is booming - with a waiting room full of fairy tale critters waiting for his expert legal advice. It’s a true illustration of how, to quote the end screen: TV advertising works wonders!
Feeling inspired?
Sometimes, if you want to illustrate how your product or service works in a way people can understand, applying it to the world of fiction can be an interesting approach.
A few weeks back we shared the example of Envestnet, who illustrated how their platform could be used with a scrollable demo, populated with the investment data of beloved Spongebob Squarepants character, Mr Krabs.
This ad from Thinkbox is a little different in that it uses characters and stories which are public domain - free to use without any issues around trademarks - but the idea is broadly the same.
If people just don’t get what it is that you do - why not create a TV ad, animated video or demo account that shows how your product or service might be used by a well-known (public domain) character? It’s a bit of a minefield out there but historic characters like King Arthur, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Robin Hood and the Tooth Fairy, and many more, are all public domain.
