Splitting Opinions: Video Marketing Examples #151

Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.

As marketers, we'd all rather be loved than hated. That goes without saying, right?

But both are better than being ignored. Being ignored is the worst. As bad as it gets.

Ads cost money. They cost money to make, and they cost money to distribute.

So getting people to NOTICE you is somehow simultaneously the LEAST you should expect - and the MOST important objective.

Here's an ad that - love it or hate it - grabs your attention!

Apple’s “Don’t Let Me Go” campaign, promoting the iPhone 15, makes a strong point about the device’s generous storage space, which starts from 128GB.

It does this by showing a character scrolling his gallery, facing the daunting task of freeing up space by deleting photos (a predicament most of us will be familiar with.)

But just as he's about to tap that ‘delete’ button, something unexpected happens.

Faces from the photos start to sing, pleading: “Don’t Let Me Go!”

It’s a funny and surprising moment, made possible by an insanely catchy and ear-grabbing cover by MrTalkbox.

Some people really love the ad, and the song…

Quite bluntly, others absolutely hate it 😂

But, ultimately…everybody noticed it. And isn’t that 99% of the point?

Feeling inspired?

Annoying your audience? It’s never going to be your main objective, needless to say!

But when you’re creating top-of-funnel ads, particularly (although not exclusively) in B2C, you need to stand out.

Standing out means being edgy, being different, being loud. It puts you at risk of being annoying. And that’s fine.

Some will love it. Some will hate it.

As long as they don’t ignore it.

Because maybe we’ve got issues…but for us, nothing is worse than being ignored!
