Take your pick, save a life: Video Marketing Examples #25

Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.

If someone near you suffered a medical emergency - would you know what to do?

It’s an uncomfortable question to answer. How many of us can honestly say, with confidence, that we would?

According to a 2018 Red Cross study, just 5% of adults in the UK have the skills and confidence to provide first aid in emergency situations.

And it creates a difficult problem: the basics of emergency first-aid are relatively simple - but they can make a very real difference between life and death.

So how do you give people the knowledge, and confidence, to be able to at least attempt CPR - short of sending millions of people on mandatory courses?

How do you somehow make it fun? Engaging? And make the knowledge stick?

Enter interactive video!

Back in 2013, the Resuscitation Council UK created an interactive video called ‘Lifesaver,’ with updates in 2017 and 2020.

RCUK describes the film as ‘a cutting-edge way for you to learn lifesaving skills anytime, anywhere. Through action-packed scenarios, you'll be thrown into the heart of the action as you make the crucial decisions and learn the essential skills needed to save a life.’

Take a look…

The various interactive experiences have racked up hundreds of thousands of views - They’ve also been nominated for numerous awards (including BAFTAs!) and its impact as a learning resource has been studied and published in scientific journal Resuscitation

Why it works

There are so many reasons why an interactive video works more effectively than a traditional linear video in this instance.

Rather than an instructional video, it adds the pressure to the viewer of needing to make a decision - with a right AND wrong option. There’s also a clock adding further tension, which really encourages them to think and pay attention.

The gamified experience adds an extra layer of engagement, creating an experience that’s fun to play, and share.

And ultimately, with an experience that’s driven by their own input, the viewer is totally in control of their own learning - sat on the edge of their seat, interacting, rather than sitting back and letting the video simply play out.

Feeling inspired?

Interactive video is a great choice and still heavily under-utilised as a tool for education AND marketing.
