The Five Do Video Marketing!: Video Marketing Examples #124

Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.

"Blending the best of the past and present, we unlock a remarkable fusion that fuels progress and possibility." You know which great mind said that? Ok, it was us. We made it up, as a compelling quote to start the email.

But it’s true!

And the perfect example is this new ad from Great Western Railway (GWR.)

The ad, which reintroduces the beloved Enid Blyton characters, known as ‘The Famous Five’ - is created in a hybrid animation style that blends a kitsch vintage/retro look with cutting-edge 3D animation.

And it’s also a storytelling masterclass. Why? Because it stands as an object lesson in ‘comparison’ - one of the most powerful tools we have as marketers.

It’s simple: GWR want you to take the train, instead of the car.

So, in the story, Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny take the car, the Famous Five take the train.

The kids enjoy a peaceful ride, appreciating the views, conversations, and cups of tea.

Poor old Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny, on the other hand, encounter delays, air pollution- and a messy encounter with farm vehicles.

Of course, ‘Five Get There First’ (the ad campaign title.) And when the dust clears (literally), Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny are in no doubt that - next time - they'll take the train!

In short, the ad masterfully lays out the advantages of GWR's train travel, including speed, sustainability, comfort, and socialising, while also demonstrating the pitfalls of the alternative.

And it paints an amazing picture.

Comparison is a powerful tool in today's competitive landscape. When contrasting your product or service with the alternative, it allows you to highlight its unique advantages - as well as the painful bits of using the competition.

Animated videos excel at manipulating and communicating this message effectively.

Using characters to showcase your offering alongside the pains and stresses of the alternative creates a compelling narrative, and animation lets you tell whatever sort of story you want - without finding locations or casting acting talent.

Animated videos engage viewers by visually illustrating the stark contrast between options, making your product or service stand out.
