The Great Resignation: Video Marketing Examples #48

In last week’s email, we shared the story of how Channel 4 are using animated video to communicate internally with their employees. 

What we hadn’t fully realised when compiling that email was just how big an issue employee churn is across the world right now!

An article published on The Drum earlier this week referred to what’s known globally as ‘The Great Resignation.’ 

This is an actual term being used to describe the unprecedented exodus of workers from businesses throughout 2021. (The term reached an all-time high this month on Google Trends.)

Recruitment company Monster reports that two-thirds of UK workers are considering a change in jobs, while referencing some polls in the U.S. which put this number as high as 95%! 

Enter internal marketing

There are many potential explanations for this exodus, and not all are within the control of businesses. 

But as the aforementioned Drum article stresses: Internal marketing – not just external – could be the key to weathering the storm.

Internal marketing is essentially the promotion of a company's vision, goals, culture, and mission statement within the organisation. 

It’s about considering why people might feel they need to leave their role - and creating content aimed at addressing those issues.

For example, if your people feel unappreciated, video is an interesting way to say thank you and show appreciation…

For those feeling uncertain and unsure, video can help present clear communication of new policies, ideas and changes...

For those who feel their role lacks purpose and are reassessing their priorities, videos can help remind them what their work has helped achieve… 

Internal marketing goes beyond video. It can include email, events, printed literature, gifts/rewards/incentives and so much more.  

But in this climate you can’t afford to ignore your staff - and should be looking to create content for them, as well as your external audience,

And video is a great place to start...
