The Nostalgia Effect - Video Marketing Examples #144

Obligatory disclaimer: This isn't an ad or sponsored content. We simply wanted to share this analysis with you as a great, recent example of video marketing.

We’re digging deep into the video marketing memory banks for this video by McDonalds, released last June, but that only seems apt for what is such an amazing nostalgia trip.

Now, you might be thinking “Wait a minute. Wait a minute. You’ve already covered McDonalds using nostalgia as a marketing tool in your Video Marketing Examples #131 email.”

To which we would reply, “Wow. Thanks for being such a dedicated reader of these emails!”

Seriously though, maybe this is worth looking at again. McDonalds is able to use nostalgia to great effect across multiple marketing campaigns because it is connected to the childhoods of a lot of its current consumers.

This is a very unique position to be in. But even if you created your company yesterday, you can still take advantage of nostalgia marketing.

According to Krystine Batcho, a professor who researches nostalgia, it’s a feeling that “provides us with comfort amid fear and uncertainty regarding the future.”

This makes the present day, with all of the stress connected to inflation, conflict, and general anxiety about the post-pandemic world, the perfect time for nostalgia marketing. So…yay?

Feeling inspired?

Take a look at your product, brand, or service and consider how you could market it in a way that provides a sense of comfort and childhood wonder.

One creative tool that can generate an instant hit of nostalgia is animation. After all, what child didn’t enjoy watching cartoons in their pyjamas on a Saturday morning with a big bowl of cereal in their lap?

If that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, reach out and see what animation can do for your brand!
